The SCDS men’s tennis team is looking to continue its 4+ year regional champion streak this season. So far, they’ve had early successes, but the season is young, with just four games having been played. They’ve had a well-balanced and deep roster for the past four years, but this year might offer a new dynamic.

Let’s take a look at the singles players. At 1st singles, there’s Reed Dulany, a player who started all the way at 2nd doubles his Freshman year. He’s worked on his mechanics restlessly, nearly perfecting his serve angle and putaway forehands. Beyond technique, Dulany has also put in some significant work in the weight room, allowing him to muscle serve well into the triple digits. At two singles, you have Wills Davis, a very reliable player who doesn’t let anything get past him. He excels at the net, with his six-foot-four frame taking up any space for a ball to pass him. Finlay Taylor mans the third singles, holding down the spot to be a near guaranteed win against any opponent. He’s annoying to his opponents, acting like a wall that can’t be broken.

Now, for the doubles players. At 1st doubles, there’s senior Paxton Towe and Freshman Charlie Hill. Towe has become an expert at doubles, playing there all four years of his high school career. This dynamic of senior and Freshman is a callback to his freshman year when he played with Lawson Zhou. Charlie Hill, despite his young age, is a force with the racquet, serving at high speeds and showing aggression that a seasoned veteran would be intimidated by. At 2nd doubles, there’s Charlie Glidewell and Keating Taylor, both players who are extremely consistent at the baseline and who remain calm and unfazed under extreme pressure.

Taken together, the members of the men’s tennis team are looking to continue performing at an elite level and to carry on the long-standing Country Day tradition of success.
