Male Athlete of the Issue: Will Howard
Written by: Paxton Towe
At the beginning of the tennis season this year, the tennis team had some uncertainties about the upcoming season. With alumni Turner Birthisel and Frank Kamaleson gone, who played 1st singles and 2nd singles respectively, it was “every man for himself” at tryouts. However, in moments of ambiguity, leaders and heroes are created, and that is just what has happened so far in this season for one player in particular.
Will Howard is currently a Sophomore at Country Day and, despite his young age, has led the boys' tennis team against competitive opponents at schools from Richmond Hill and Atlanta at the recent Jekyll Jam tournament. While you might not find him on the court very often, balancing other mandatory after-school commitments, Howard’s passion for the tennis team’s success is abundant and radiates into every player on the team. At practice, Howard can be seen motivating teammates and working on his craft, hitting countless serves and practicing groundstrokes in matches.
With the season still young, the tennis team hopes to continue their early successes. The team is going to need Howard more than ever to pull through and hype players up to play against the best opponents Georgia has to offer.
