The 2024–2025 Savannah Country Day School men’s tennis team is coached by Lamar Kirkley and Sam Anderson, while the women’s team is led by Reid Owens and Heather Fountain. Both teams have been working exceptionally hard all season—and that hard work paid off with dominant performances at the Region Tournament, where both teams came out on top. The season kicks off in February with competitive tryouts and significant cuts. Players practice for an hour and a half after school, four to five days a week, focusing on building strength, refining technique, and staying in shape. Around fourteen players are selected to practice with each team, but only seven compete in matches—three in singles spots and four across two doubles pairings. Helen Culver, a junior at Savannah Country Day and president of the junior body, plays in the girls’ first singles spot. She’s had an amazing season, winning nearly every match and playing a key role in the girls' impressive winning record. On the boys’ side, freshman Frank Kamaleson and senior Turner Birthisel alternate in the first singles spot. These two talented players have been playing tennis their entire lives and bring valuable experience and teamwork to every practice and match. The regular season has just wrapped up with strong records for both teams: the boys finished 16-5, and the girls finished 14-7. With the playoffs coming up soon, both teams are strongly prepared and ready to compete. Let’s wish them luck!
