Men’s Soccer

Under the leadership of new head coach, Zack Hargreaves, the varsity boys’ soccer team has had an impressive and disciplined season, finishing regular play with an 11–4 overall record, including a perfect 3–0 in-region run.

From the outset, the Hornets demonstrated a sharp competitive edge. The team opened the season with a strong performance against Savannah Arts, then quickly found their rhythm, shutting out Statesboro (4–0), Effingham County (5–0), and Hilton Head Prep (5–0). As of late March, the team had earned seven shutouts in their first ten matches, a testament to their solid defensive organization and smart team play.

Two of the most satisfying wins of the season were against high-level opponents: Greater Atlanta Christian (2–0) and Toombs County (5–3). These victories marked major turning points, showcasing the team’s composure under pressure and their ability to execute in critical moments.

Throughout the season, the players have worked hard to adapt to Coach Hargreaves’ system, improving their cohesion and tactical awareness with each match. Their continued growth has been evident in matches like the thrilling 4–3 road win against Islands High and the controlled 7–0 shutout of Woodville-Tompkins.

As the team looks ahead to postseason play, they do so with momentum, confidence, and a core group of experienced players leading the way. And a special recognition to this year’s seniors — Chase Buerger, Hyers Holland, Woods Lovett, and John Morgan Peters — for their leadership, commitment, and contributions to the program’s success.

With a foundation of strong team chemistry, a deep and talented roster, and a clear identity taking shape under new coaching, the Hornets are in an excellent position to make a competitive run in the state playoffs. We look forward to seeing how far they can go.
