Written by: Madison Bueno
The Female Athlete of the Issue is Agnes Brown. Agnes is a senior here at Savannah Country Day. She has been at SCDS since the 6th grade. She runs cross country, but her real passion is tennis. Agnes started playing tennis at the age of eight, and she has been in love with it ever since. Agnes said, “I like to hit the ball hard.” Her favorite tennis memory is playing doubles with (junior) Helen Culver after a match. Agnes is a supportive, competitive, encouraging teammate and leader on the court. Agnes said, “I love tennis because of the competitive nature of it, and I love playing and winning with my teammates.” Throughout her tennis journey, her biggest role model is Nick Kyrgios, an Australian tennis player. She watches all of his matches and strives to get better and show it on the court. She said, “His confidence, perseverance, and determination is what sets him apart from everyone else.” This year, the girls’ varsity tennis team was recently named region champions. Agnes went 5-5 during the season. Yay! Agnes is also an artistic stud. Her favorite mediums are ceramics, paint, watercolor, and colored pencil. She recently received honorable mention for the 2025 Scholastic Art and Writing Award. Agnes plans on attending the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) after graduating.
