Teacher Interview: Mrs. Williams
Written by: Reese Bailey
Mrs. Williams, one of SCDS’s most talented math teachers, brings energy, warmth, and perspective to the classroom. Originally from Atlanta, she didn’t always plan to become a teacher - she actually majored in business administration and once thought she’d go into the business world. However, it was her eighth-grade math teacher who first lit her math loving flame, and that influence eventually led her to pursue teaching math.
Now in her third year at SCDS, Mrs. Williams loves creating those “lightbulb moments” for students - when something challenging suddenly clicks and makes sense and she gets to see their “aha” moment. Her favorite topic/unit to teach is logarithms despite hating them in high school.
Outside of school, Mrs. Williams enjoys reading, going on long walks while listening to audiobooks, crocheting, hiking, and gardening - basically anything that lets her be outdoors. She has two children, Emma, who attends the University of Colorado Boulder, and Hugh, who studies at Hamilton College. Her husband, Mr. Williams, is an artist who used to teach but now focuses fully on his art.
Having lived in several places - including Atlanta, New Hampshire, Richmond, Cleveland, and Savannah - Mrs. Williams brings a well-rounded perspective to both teaching and life. When asked what advice she’d give to the younger generation, she said she hopes students recognize how “awesome they already are” and remember to be present instead of constantly striving for perfection.
Mrs. Williams’s thoughtful outlook and genuine care for her students make her a valued part of the SCDS community.
To Mrs. Williams - Thank you for all that you do! Your presence on this campus is so valued and appreciated.
