Teacher Besties

Written by: Suri Desai

When we think of our teachers at school, we typically think of them teaching classes, grading tests and papers and occasionally going off on a tangent about something. They guide us, teach us, help run clubs and give us so many pieces of paper that by the end of the year, we have enough in our binders to fill a book. Yet, just like us, teachers have social lives too. If we have a bad day, we need to vent to our bestie about it, and teachers are no exception to this.

We see our teachers chatting in the hallways, hanging out in their classrooms, and eating lunch together. When you think about teacher besties, it’s impossible not to think of Mrs. Floyd and Mrs. Duthu. Mrs. Floyd and Mrs. Duthu first met during Freshman Weekend a few years ago, and instantly bonded. They affectionately call each other “cosmic egg sisters” and share a mutual love for Halloween and all things spooky. Both are known for their fashion, warm personalities and ability to inspire their students to do their best work. Their mutual love for art and writing makes them the perfect team to create the Amanuensis, the school’s annual Art and Literary Magazine.

All in all, teacher besties are just like us: they laugh, they hang out, we assume they gossip (but we’ll never know) and they rely on each other through good times and bad. In a profession built on connection, teacher besties prove that the strongest bonds don’t just benefit students: they uplift entire classrooms. Their friendships remind us that teaching, like life, is never a solo act.
