Theatre Update: The Secret in the Wings

Written by: Hannah Smith

When I opened my school inbox, after leaving it to rot all summer, to the one-act play announcement, I couldn’t help the excitement that bubbled up. As a chronic theatre enthusiast, I’ve been a part of every show since middle school, and drag through school days just to get to rehearsals. All in all, I love theatre, but when I read the one-act this year, The Secret in the Wings, I was at a loss. The play was confusing, muddled, and unsatisfying. I signed up anyway, unwilling to break my five-year-long streak. I started the rehearsal process unimpressed, but slowly the show started to piece together. Not only did it start making sense, but I actually came to enjoy the play. So, I urge you to give The Secret in the Wings a shot. While it's not the teen-centric comedy of Mean Girls (our musical this year), it’s still a relevant and intriguing show, filled with intense scenes and an incredible twist. The dates are October 23-24 at seven PM and October 25 at three PM in Jelks, and our GHSA competition date is November 1 from eight AM to five PM.
