Girls’ Basketball

Written by: Sarah Sussman

Girls’ Basketball is officially back in action, and the Hornets are already building momentum for what promises to be one of the most exciting seasons yet. After a long preseason of conditioning, early-morning practices, and team bonding moments, the girls opened the year strong with a scrimmage.

The highlight of the week came on a Saturday, when the team secured a huge win against Norcross Christian — the same team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year. Walking away with that win felt especially sweet, and it set a clear tone for other teams in the region.

This season’s roster is stacked with returning talent and new energy. Our four seniors — SC Gilpin, Sarah Sussman, Sophie Myers, and Molly Hildebrandt — are stepping into leadership roles on and off the court. Even though SC tore her ACL over the summer, the team is staying hopeful for her return in January, and she’s already one of the biggest supporters on the roster.

The upperclass pride runs deep. Back for their junior seasons are Maddie Bueno, Luana Castillo, Claudia Barrow, Maddie McCray, along with a slew of strong underclassmen who are ready to make their mark. After a few early hiccups, the team is finding its rhythm and looking sharper each day.

With Head Coach Joe Nero leading the charge and Assistant Coach Jill Faxon bringing new energy, the girls are gearing up for a packed schedule, including a matchup on December 2nd. The season is taking off fast, but the team’s confidence is rising just as quickly.

There’s a real sense of promise around this year’s team. The chemistry is growing, the momentum is building, and the girls are excited to keep pushing themselves every week. Make sure to come out and support our student-athletes;  it’s shaping up to be a season you won’t want to miss.
