Students Against Stigma Club

Written by: Reese Bailey

As one of the leaders of SCDS’s new club Students Against Stigma, I have the privilege of helping to create a school environment where mental health is understood, accepted, and supported. Our club was formed with the goal of reducing the stigma around mental health and encouraging open, honest conversations among students.

One of our main initiatives is planning popup events throughout the school. These events will be designed to remind students that they are not alone and that their presence and well-being matter. From messages of encouragement to interactive activities, each will aim to create a space where students can feel seen and heard. With our first event approaching rapidly, the excitement and anticipation among our members are high, and we are eager to make a positive impact on our peers.

In addition to events, our club works to normalize conversations about mental health and encourages empathy and understanding. We want students to feel comfortable reaching out for help, whether it’s talking to friends, teachers, or counselors.

Being part of Students Against Stigma has taught me the power of community and the importance of advocacy. It’s inspiring to see students come together to support one another, break down barriers, and foster a culture of care and awareness. Our hope is that, over time, our efforts will make mental health discussions less awkward, less stigmatized, and more of a natural part of school life. If you are interested in becoming a member of our club, please let one of the leaders (listed below) or Dr. Roethling know.

Students Against Stigma is more than a club—it’s a movement toward a stronger, more compassionate school community.

Leaders: Lillian Stone, Frances Brock, Reese Bailey, Emma Bromley, Jillian Goldberg, Samantha Hendrix, Isabella Andolina, Maeve Hecht, & Victoria Kang
