Music Review: DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS

Written by: Elijah Nguyen and Paxton Towe

Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS is one of his most ambitious and culturally rooted albums to date, blending traditional Puerto Rican sounds like plena, salsa, and jíbaro with reggaetón and modern production to create a sonic archive of memory, loss, and resilience. The title itself, “I should have taken more photos,” sets the tone for an album centered on reflection and cultural preservation, with tracks like “DtMF” offering tender vulnerability, “Lo que le pasó a Hawaii” warning of gentrification and erasure, and “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” slowing the pace with lush, salsa-inflected warmth. Collaborations with local musicians and folkloric groups further anchor the record in its heritage, while political undertones about colonialism and displacement deepen its weight. Though some mid-album tracks drift into more formulaic reggaetón, the project largely succeeds in balancing experimentation, emotional resonance, and cultural storytelling. More meditative and less focused on radio hits than his past projects, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS stands as a powerful statement on Puerto Rican identity and Bad Bunny’s evolving artistry, asking listeners to lean in rather than simply dance along.
