Movie Review: Get Out
Written by: Madison Bueno
Get Out is an American psychological horror film directed by Jordan Peele that explores the terrifying idea of losing control of your body and mind. Jordan Peele is also well-known for his popular films, such as NOPE (2022) and Us (2019). It was released on February 24, 2017, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams.
The movie revolves around an African American man, Chris, who visits his white girlfriend's, Rose, family. When they arrive, Chris feels that something is “off” about Rose’s family and neighborhood. Although Rose's parents, Missy and Dean, are friendly and normal hypotherapists and neurosurgeons, Chris has a gut feeling that something isn’t right. This is further demonstrated by their unusual acting housekeeper, Georgina, and groundskeeper, Walter, whom the family has had since Rose’s grandparents' deaths. Chris also thinks it's strange that the family and their friends make racist comments about Black culture. Additionally, at a party, Chris spotted what he believed to be a missing individual, and upon further investigation, discovered that he was right and the guy had been missing for multiple years. This unsettling news urges Chris to investigate the house further and finds something troubling in the bedroom closet. As Chris digs deeper into Rose’s unnerving family’s lifestyle, he uncovers their shocking and dark secret that is covered by their friendly smiles.
I would rate this movie a 9/10. This film will keep you guessing and engaged and the psychological horror aspect will exceed your expectations. I would recommend this movie to people who like horror but also like disturbing, unsettling, and psychological shocks.
