Prom Review
Written by: Collin Harris
With the end of the year rapidly approaching and our schoolwork only becoming more tedious, our prom hiatus couldn’t have come sooner. To start, the juniors and seniors had lunch in the loggia which was Barnes and Leopolds, so off to a pretty great start; additionally, the prom t-shirts this year weren’t ugly! On Friday, the juniors had to attend classes in the morning while seniors got a skip day, which I’m sure the juniors weren’t too happy about; nevertheless, everybody made it to prom on time and passed the breathalyzer test.
Walking into prom this year, I expected there to be more. Not that there wasn’t anything, but the theme this year seemed a little lackluster. Besides the poster of horse riders and the honestly generic backdrop for photos, there wasn’t anything more about the “Kentucky Derby”. It almost seems like the Yacht Club brings out the poker table, blackjack, and roulette wheel as standard procedure for prom. Regardless, it’s still fun for everyone to participate in a little gambling; and a little birdie told me that some bets were taken on pool, but I can’t confirm or deny that this happened. The Yacht Club is always a splendid venue, the patio offers a good space for pictures - thank you, Christine Hall - and the room is spacious enough for everyone to meander around. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t amazing but the desserts were superb, especially the mini cheesecakes; but for some reason, there wasn’t water ever during prom, and the lemonade and tea were warm.
After everyone had eaten, it was time to move to the dance floor, and this year did not disappoint. Though the DJ might not have been the best we’ve had, they certainly played a few crowd pleasers which dragged everyone onto the dance floor. Whether it was Will Harmon shakin it on the ground, Eli Forbes Young tearing it up, or even the Chill Cop dancing for a few seconds, everybody had a great time listening to music and dancing at prom. Overall, prom this year gets a solid 6/10; the theme was a little lacking, step it up Juniors.
