Campus Life

These past few months have served as a reminder of how special this place is. Between sold-out shows, championship runs, and a few sweet surprises along the way, there has been no shortage of things to celebrate.
Seniors got their extra love this month when they were treated to a Valentine’s Day candy bar during break -- an amazing gesture that had the senior class in good spirits. Also worth paying attention to: Christine Hall photos are on the way. For anyone who missed it, photographer Christine Hall came to campus and captured portraits of students, and those photos will be released soon. Make sure you claim yours when they drop.
The arts have been the story of the season. Mean Girls opened on Thursday, February 20th, and what followed was nothing short of electric. They played three shows, three sellouts, and created an audience that could not get enough. The cast and crew poured everything into this production, and it showed. What makes it even more remarkable is the run this school has been on. Mean Girls follows last year’s musical 9 to 5 and 2024’s Bright Star, and somehow, impossibly, it held its own. These were big shoes to fill, and they filled them.
On the courts, both basketball programs wrapped up seasons that the school should be incredibly proud of. The boys had a strong playoff run before falling just short to Lovett in the state playoffs. A tough loss, but one that came at the end of a season full of fight and determination. The girls, meanwhile, knocked off Calvary before meeting Whitefield in a hard-fought battle that went down to the wire. Both teams showed what this program is built on: teamwork, resilience, and real strength of character. Science Olympiad has also been having a standout season, racking up multiple first and second place finishes in recent competition. And Mock Trial deserves a mention too. The team has performed well all season, with one squad advancing and absolutely dominating the competition when they got there.
Spring sports are just getting started, and things are already looking good. Boys soccer has been rolling, opening with a 5–3 win over Savannah Arts, following it up with a dominant 4–0 performance at Tatnall County, and most recently taking down Statesboro 2–0 behind two goals from Ryder Mane. Girls soccer is equally locked in. They kicked things off with a 10–2 win against Groves, won a penalty shootout against Tatnall, and JV picked up a 5–1 win over Statesboro just this past week. Boys lacrosse is set to open at home in Saunders Stadium against Islands High School at 5 PM, and tennis made a strong early statement at the Jekyll Island Jam, with both the girls’ and boys’ teams coming home with a third place finish. Baseball and track are gearing up as well with great starts to their seasons.
Another thing worth highlighting: the blood drive held on campus was a massive success. With a huge turnout of donors, the drive resulted in over 100 lives impacted. It was a great showing from this community, and everyone who participated should feel proud.
Finally, to the seniors, your final stretch is here, and it is going to be one to remember. Grad Bash is set for April 18th at Universal Studios, with final payment due by March 15th. Seniors’ last week runs April 27th through May 1st, capped off by the Last Ride on Friday, May 1st — bikes from the GSU Armstrong Campus to SCDS, finishing with families waiting at Saunders Stadium. After that comes Honors Night on May 11th, Baccalaureate on May 15th, and Graduation on May 16th at the Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island. Make sure your diploma name form is filled out on Blackbaud, and that your families have signed the permission form for end-of-year activities. It’s going by too fast- enjoy every moment!
