The Savannah Country Day School Varsity track and field team has kicked off its 2025 season with impressive performances, achieving seven personal records despite only two weeks of practice. Standout athletes include Kent Burnett, who got 1st place in the 800m run and 2nd in the 1600m run, and THE Charlie Pope, who took 1st in the 1600m run. Andrew Nicholson dominated the shot put with a 1st-place finish, and following that, Caroline Semones won the high jump. Other strong performances came from Aarya Patel (2nd in the 400m dash), Mary Elizabeth Semones (2nd in the 300m hurdles), and Andrew Wynn (2nd in the high jump, 3rd in the 110m hurdles). The girls' 4x800m relay team: Ansley Cheshire, Lily Barrow, Cindy Murray, and Aarya Patel, secured 2nd place, while Ansley Cheshire also claimed 3rd in the 800m run. Additionally, Andrew Semones earned 3rd place in the discus event. A key highlight was the friendly rivalry between Pope and Burnett, who pushed each other to strong finishes in the 1600m run. The team’s next meet is today, February 21, 2025, at Richmond Hill High School, with several upcoming home meets at Saunders Stadium on February 26, March 5, March 12, and March 26, all starting at 3:30 PM. With a strong start to the season, the team looks poised for continued success, demonstrating their dedication and competitive spirit. Make sure to come support your track stars this Spring!
