Cross Country Update

by Kai Niederwanger

It’s been a great season for Country Day’s Cross Country Team, filled with memorable moments and blazing fast times. Led by our amazing seniors, the team has grown tremendously both in racing times and as a group. Our new coach, Mr. Shin, has brought much-needed energy to the squad and inspired us to come to practice and actually run. In her most recent performance, senior Aarya Patel won the entire meet with a 5K time of 19:36, a great PR. After interviewing a few members of the team for their thoughts on the season, only positive memories were shared. Our most enthusiastic runner, Owen Edwards, referenced the Sunrise Party and bus rides back home as his favorite part of the XC experience. JV standout Phi DuPont mentioned singing and dancing to his favorite tunes as “pretty peak”. Recent reports tell of junior Nate “The Goat” Pope giving deep insights on the morning long runs, advising the younger generation of runners philosophically. The team has a crucial next few weeks as the Varsity team will be making Country Day proud at District and State meets. The team is looking to shake up the standings in the GIAA.

With all that said, it surely has been an amazing season filled with countless memories. We can’t wait to see them break more personal records and make their mark as a premier running team in the greater Savannah area.
