Chipotle vs. Java Burrito

Written by: Eloise Goldstein

As I was pondering an idea for a food article, I decided that I would set out to find an answer to the question the city of Savannah has been asking since 2022. Chipotle vs Java Burrito Company. Which burrito is truly superior? In order to answer this question, I went to each place and got a burrito to judge.

First, I went to Java Burrito Company. Upon walking in, the restaurant was spotless, nicely decorated, and had an extensive menu. The burrito building station was set up in the same way as Chipotle is, with workers taking your order and making the burrito in front of you. The menu had a lot of options, including a breakfast burrito served in the morning. I ordered the same thing at both places: a burrito with white rice, pinto beans, chicken, lettuce, and pico de gallo. Java Burrito had many more choices than just that, including peaches, pineapple, and an assortment of salsas. The workers were also very nice and answered any questions I had. I took my burrito home and dug in. The size of mine was pretty good, being not too big and not too small. I liked the flavors a lot and would definitely order again.

The next day, I went to Chipotle. Immediately, I noticed that it was not nearly as nice as Java Burrito. There was trash on the floor, overflowing garbage cans, and a long line with bored-looking workers. I ordered my burrito- two dollars cheaper than Java- and drove home, excited to take a big bite of my burrito, which was much bigger than the previous one. My excitement didn’t last, however, when the massive burrito completely fell apart after taking only a few bites. Though it was still delicious, I could hardly call it a burrito anymore as I enjoyed the rest of my meal with a fork.

So, after careful consideration, I came to my conclusion. Both burritos tasted practically the same, but judging on my entire experience, including the vibe of the restaurant, cleanliness, friendliness of workers, and, of course, being able to actually eat my food, I had to give the title of “Best Burrito” to the Java Burrito Company.
