Movie Review: Snow White
Written by: Mimi Dulany
I’m sure everyone has heard of the horrible reviews on the Snow White live-action movie. If you look it up on Google, it has a 1.3 star rating, which is incredibly low. In addition to the horrible reviews, Rachel Zegler doesn’t show any signs of respect towards this old, wonderful Disney cartoon. She says in an interview that the movie is “dated” and the prince, who loves Snow White, is portrayed as “stalking” her, which is why they had to change this live-action up a bit. Many, including myself, argue that this spin on the original Snow White, which was the first Disney movie ever made, is too modern. The idea of this new movie is that to be a brave woman, she must be courageous and independent without her prince by her side, and Rachel Zegler proves that idea in all of her interviews. Zegler describes that a princess doesn’t need a prince, but there are princes in the original Disney princess movies, so why get rid of them and downplay them now? Many believe that Disney banned Rachel Zegler from their productions, which I believe is not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, she was great in the most recent Hunger Games, but that doesn’t mean she’s right to play a Disney princess. The movie is cringy, and the songs are even cringier. Not to mention that it doesn’t even look like they did Zegler’s makeup or hair throughout the entire movie. I agree with the 1.3 star rating. I believe that Disney should stick with making either cartoons or live action movies that follow the exact guidelines of the old movies because without that, is it really a Disney production or worth watching in general?
