Theater Update: Starting Up the Season!

by Caroline Bergmann

Last year’s theatre season ended on an incredible note with a sold-out run of Mean Girls: the Musical, a show that was adored by audiences and left its cast and supporters talking long after the curtain closed. The season also featured the never-done before creative production of Spring Shorts, a play festival filled with unique stories written by people from all over the country, including five plays written by SCDS students themselves!

To kick off this year’s season, the theatre program is preparing for its one-act, Kodachrome. Kodachrome is a heartfelt show narrated by a photographer, Suzanne, played by Kharis Ott. As Suzanne travels through her small town, she captures the stories of couples and local workers, each facing struggles of their own. As their stories intertwine, the show reveals just how connected and small our world really is.

From the backstage magic of our live musician, Alyn Kim, to familiar faces onstage like Kensie Glass and Andrew Montgomery, Kodachrome is a show you won’t want to miss! Come support the cast at Jelks on October 22nd and 23rd at 7:00 pm, and October 24th at 3:00 pm, before they take the show on the road to the GIAA One-Act Competition in Macon.

Our theatre program truly never stops. Just days after the region competition, auditions for Mamma Mia! The Musical will begin! Auditions will be held after school from November 3rd through November 6th and will include a dance call, singing auditions, and scene readings from the show. Interested in auditioning? Don’t worry, no previous experience is necessary! Make sure to keep an eye on your inbox for an email from Mr. Venhaus with all the audition details and more information about the show.

We can’t wait for you to see our shows, and maybe even see you onstage!
