Theater Update

Written by: Kensie Glass

After 3 months of rehearsals, choreography, last minute memorizing lines, and costume fittings, Mean Girls: The Musical wrapped its final performance on February 22nd, bringing the most fun production of the year to a close.

The show followed Cady Heron’s (Reese Bailey) journey through the social hierarchy of North Shore High, with strong vocals, complicated dance numbers, impossible costume changes, and an impressive set that transformed the stage into everything from high school in America to the jungle in Kenya.

In November, auditions were held. Although auditions can be very stressful and scary, the cast and directors kept it an exciting and positive experience for everyone. When the cast list was emailed out to the students, the cast remained supportive and positive for their peers no matter their role. From there, we had thousands of music rehearsals learning harmonies and solos, and run throughs of the show. “This show brought everyone so close together. The theater started to feel like a second home” said Eli Bailey/ Kevin G. “I wish we could all eat it and be happy” - Maggie Macfadyen/ Teary Girl.

Audiences responded enthusiastically to standout numbers such as “I’d Rather Be Me”, “Who’s House is This?”, “Do This Thing”, “Stop”, and “I See Stars”. Behind the scenes the technical crew worked just as hard, coordinating lighting cues, sound, and set transitions that kept the production running smoothly. Shoutout to Luke, Coleman, Addie, and more.

For most seniors this was their last time being in a high school musical. Backstage the cast cried and hugged the seniors. Many people even cried during the last performance during the ending song.
