Artist of the Issue Q3: Feriby McCorkle
Written by: Tenny Fitzgerald
This issue's artist highlight is Feriby McCorkle 25’. Outside the art classroom Feriby is a very active member of the SCDS community. She is a member of Varsity volleyball and basketball teams. She is also student body president, a member of the amanuensis, and editor and chief of The Buzz.
Feriby is in Ms. Duthus' 450 Art Portfolio class. In art portfolio students have the complete freedom to generate and then present an idea to Ms.Duthu, after her approval they have two weeks to bring their ideas to completion. Ms. Duthu says “ Feriby is a very self driven artist, she has a strong skill set and she is very kind to herself and others”
Feriby specializes in acrylic paint. She especially loves to paint miniature versions of scenes she photographs around her house. She says “I like to give the finished work to my mom as presents”. Right now, she is working painting a photograph from her friend group's “friends giving” celebration. She is working on this piece with last issue's artist: Agnes Brown.
Feriby hasn't always loved creating art the way she does now. She had always taken art classes in school but until her senior year it was just another class. After taking a year off from art her junior year, she rediscovered her love for it this year. Now, creating art is a happy place for Feriby. It's something she does for fun that allows her to relax. Her advice to all artists is to “keep doing it, just keep at it”.
Make sure to check out this year's amanuensis to see some of Feribys work!
